Breathing Colours Exhibition at Pan Pacific Singapore's Public Art Space
Pan Pacific Singapore and Very Special Arts Singapore present Breathing Colours, a group exhibition by five local artists Isabelle Lim, Lau Su An, Natalie Holstad, Nicole Koo and Zoe Tan. This group of artists have consistently produced beautiful and compelling artwork through the bold use of colours.
This is the second in the series of three art exhibitions that celebrate the empowerment of people with special needs through the arts.
About the Artists
Isabelle Lim
Isabelle Lim is an aspiring photographer who has Nager Syndrome. Born with profound deafness, she uses sign language to communicate.
Isabelle Lim loves to capture the street scene of Singapore through photography and her work revolves around the theme, “Primary Colours”. She often capture places and objects involving vibrant colours such as Red, Yellow and Blue.
Lau Su An
Despite living with Down Syndrome, Lau Su An is a strong and motivated individual. She picked up painting to improve her fine motor skills and self-confidence, and adores drawing flowers as they reflect beauty and grace.
Apart from being artistically talented, she is also musically inclined, where she plays both the piano and organ. Lau Su An regularly keeps herself fit with bowling and swimming sessions as well.
Natalie Holstad
An intuitive painter since young, Norwegian-Singaporean born Natalie Holstad is diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis.
Despite her disability, she is a firm believer in the healing power of art where she believes that “the most wonderful thing about art is that there are no mistakes”.
In this space, Natalie Holstad is able to dream, explore, go into the depths of feelings and memories and give her artwork “a voice”.
Nicole Koo
An autistic artist with a strong passion for watercolour painting, Nicole Koo has a diploma in fine arts at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) with a major in Western oil painting.
Nicole Koo takes pride in her work as she carefully monitors the progress of her paintings and develops a strong sense of accomplishment upon completion.
To Nicole Koo, art is a joyous therapy as it puts her into a peaceful state of mind, where everything is calm and quiet around her.
Zoe Tan
A freelance designer and former art teacher, Zoe Tan was also a recipient of the Very Special Arts scholarship for a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design.
She first developed a passion for art under the early tutelage of her father. Despite suffering from hearing impairment, Zoe Tan demonstrates an acute sense of life in her vivid works of art with montages of figures and faces.
