Press release -
Allure of Chinese Ink Painting by VSA Singapore at Pan Pacific Singapore's Public Art Space
23 April 2019, Singapore – Pan Pacific Singapore and Very Special Arts Singapore present Allure of Chinese Ink Painting, a group exhibition by four local artists. Tay Bee Lian, Teresa Tan, Toh Ah Wat and Wesley Seah will be showcasing Chinese Shui-mo (水墨, “water and ink”) paintings, one of the world’s oldest artistic traditions. This is the grand finale of the three art exhibitions that celebrate the empowerment of people with special needs through the arts.
About the Artists
Tay Bee Lian
Tay Bee Lian is a talented painter suffering from post-polio syndrome. Despite her condition, she pressed on to obtain a certificate in Fashion Design and received several corporate art projects from established companies such as the National Council of Social Service and Nokia.
Her interest in art was piqued when she first picked up painting at the Handicaps Welfare Association. Bee Lian adores painting tranquil scenes of nature, bouquets and seascapes.
Teresa Tan
Despite being afflicted with paraplegia, Teresa Tan finds peace in painting as it “connects” her to the outside world. Her style of painting is called “Elaborate Art”, a form of art that involves building up layers of paint to achieve the final result.
Toh Ah Wat
A professional art and craft maker and strong-willed mother with two kids, Toh Ah Wat is always looking at expanding her knowledge of craft.
In spite of her disability, Toh Ah Wat has mastered the art of candle making, pottery, paper and fabric crafting, and is currently taking up woodworking.
Wesley Seah
Wesley Seah is a visually impaired artist who has strong aspirations in life. He was blessed to be given an opportunity to attend Chinese Ink painting courses at LASALLE and used his art to raise funds for World Vision Singapore.
Wesley Seah strives to be an inspiration to others, encouraging them that despite their disabilities, they could overcome obstacles and achieve great things in life.
Visitors are welcome to view the remarkable art pieces by these talented artists at this complimentary art exhibition. Allure of Chinese Ink Painting will be on showcase 11:00am to 8:00pm daily, 9 May 2019 to 29 July 2019 at the Public Art Space, Level 2 of Pan Pacific Singapore.
