PAN PACIFIC HOTELS GROUP ACHIEVE GSTC HOTEL MULTI-SITE CERTIFICATION IN MALAYSIA

Kuala Lumpur, 5 March 2026 - PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur, Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur, PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur, PARKROYAL Langkawi Resort, and PARKROYAL Penang Resort were certified under the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Hotel Multi-site Certification, following a comprehensive independent audit by Control Union Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.

This certification is a global benchmark for sustainability in travel and tourism with focus on four key pillars: effective sustainability planning, maximising social and economic benefits for local communities, safeguarding cultural heritage, and minimising negative environmental impact. The GSTC Hotel Standards enable hospitality portfolios to implement consistent sustainability governance across multiple properties while allowing each hotel to address its unique local environmental and community priorities.

Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Allan Wong, Country General Manager, Malaysia, said, “This GSTC Hotel Multi-site Certification is a significant milestone for our Malaysia properties. It reflects the dedication and shared commitment of our teams across all 5 properties to operate responsibly, reduces our environmental footprint, and creates positive impact for the communities we serve, while delivering meaningful and sustainable guest experiences.”

“We congratulate Pan Pacific Hotels Group on the certification of all their properties in Malaysia, marking an important milestone in their sustainability journey. Achieving GSTC Certification through an Accredited Certification Body demonstrates a clear commitment to responsible tourism, advancing sustainability across the hospitality sector,” says Randy Durband, CEO of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

Across Kuala Lumpur, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur and Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur share integrated facilities and sustainability infrastructure, enabling both properties to implement many of the same environmentally responsible practices. Both properties have embedded sustainability into their design and operations. PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur’s biophilic concept, featuring more than 70 planters and 13,000 square feet of integrated greenery, an Urban Farm cultivating over 60 varieties of vegetables, fruits and edible flowers, supporting farm-to-table, farm-to-bar and farm-to-spa experiences and a swimming pool with salt water chlorination system. Both properties provide in-room filtered drinking water and refillable glass bottles in meeting spaces, eliminating single-use plastic bottles. Additional initiatives include rice straws, biodegradable takeaway packaging, wall-mounted refillable bathroom dispensers, recycling bins in guestrooms, linen and towel reuse programmes, digital guest directories and menus, EV charging stations, and energy-efficient lighting systems. Decorative wall art by local artists and the practice of associates wearing batik or traditional attire every Friday celebrate local cultural heritage.

At PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur, sustainability efforts focus on energy and water efficiency. The majority of conventional bulbs have been replaced with LED lighting, supported by motion sensors and timer systems for facilities such as the swimming pool pump, rooftop signage and sky pool lighting. Guestrooms are equipped with inverter air-conditioning preset at 23°C, key-card energy control systems, and aerated taps and showerheads to reduce water consumption. The “Green Stay” initiative encourages guests to reuse towels and linens, while wall-mounted amenity dispensers replace individual bottles.

At PARKROYAL Penang Resort, environmental stewardship is closely aligned with its coastal setting. The planting of Scaevola Taccada (beach cabbage) acts as a natural erosion barrier. The resort implements eco-friendly takeaway packaging, refillable soap and shampoo dispensers containing vegan, cruelty-free products. Additionally, it provides refillable water stations near pools, and encourages recycling strategically placed recycling bins across public areas and garden areas. Solar-powered lighting has been installed around the main pool, and majority of lighting throughout the whole resort has been upgraded to energy-efficient LED fittings. Water conservation is supported through sustainable irrigation practices. The resort also offers a Garden Nature Tour that educates guests on local biodiversity, herbal gardens and sustainable landscaping efforts. In 2024, the resort was recognised as National Champion for Hotels and Resorts in Landscape by Malaysia’s National Landscape Department. Associates wear batik uniforms designed by local artists, and during Ramadan, traditional Wayang Kulit and Gamelan performances are showcased in support of Malaysia’s cultural heritage.

At PARKROYAL Langkawi Resort, single-use plastic water bottles have been eliminated through the installation of an in-house water bottling plant and in-room filtered water dispensers across suites and villas. Environmental bedside cards and opt-out linen change programmes promote mindful consumption, while large-format amenity dispensers reduce packaging waste. The resort also supports community initiatives by donating discarded linens to non-governmental organisations.

This certification marks not the conclusion, but a major step forward in our ongoing journey towards shaping a more sustainable future for travel and tourism.
